What is marine and transit insurance?
The insurance covers loss of or damage to goods during transport by ship, plane or lorry. It is active regardless of whether you move the goods yourself or if you have hired an external carrier for the task.
Why marine and transit insurance is important
Many companies make the mistake of relying blindly on the carrier's insurance. The reality, however, is that carriers often have limited liability (e.g. under the CMR Convention), which rarely covers the full value of the goods. Without your own cover, you risk being left with a fraction of the compensation.
At Leaf, we often see companies that are not on top of the "liability gap" between their own agreements and the carrier's limitations. This means financial surprises when goods disappear or are damaged along the way.
How Leaf helps with marine and transit insurance
Automated monitoring: We use data to ensure that your coverage automatically keeps pace with your actual transport volume.
Liability transparency: We analyse your freight agreements and identify exactly where the carrier's liability ends.
Impartial claims handling: We take up the fight against the carrier and the insurance company, so you get the full value back.
